Persons with disabilities (PWDs) in rural areas face many social and economic challenges. Many rely entirely on handouts and tokens for survival. Other challenges include lack of cards from National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) for identification as well as stigma and discrimination from both the family and community members. Limited education and opportunities for income generating activities top the list of problems these categories of people face in their daily endeavors. Long distances and costly fares to seek physiotherapy services for children with disabilities is hectic for both caregivers and parents in rural areas.
